Aussie Road Trips was born from a simple camping trip gone wrong. In 2011, founders Emma Wilson and Jake
Thompson found themselves stranded on a remote stretch of the Great Ocean Road after their rental vehicle
broke down. With no mobile reception and limited supplies, they were eventually rescued by a local tour
guide who not only fixed their car but also shared invaluable knowledge about the region that transformed
their journey from disaster to delight.
This experience revealed a gap in the market: travelers needed more than just a vehicle and a map to
truly experience Australia by road. They needed local expertise, safety support, and insider knowledge to
unlock the country's hidden treasures. Emma, a travel journalist, and Jake, a former park ranger, combined
their skills to create a comprehensive road trip planning service.
Starting with just three curated routes along Australia's east coast, Aussie Road Trips quickly gained
popularity among international visitors seeking authentic experiences beyond typical tourist destinations.
By 2015, we had expanded nationwide, adding specialized services for families, wildlife enthusiasts, and
adventure seekers.
Today, with a team of passionate road trip specialists based in our Manly headquarters, we've helped over
15,000 travelers explore Australia's diverse landscapes, from coastal drives to outback adventures. Our
commitment to sustainable tourism and supporting regional communities has earned us recognition from
Tourism Australia and multiple industry awards.
